Joint conference organised by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), the Federal Statistical Office (StBA) and the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) Dresden.
The inclusion of ecosystems and their services to society in official reporting systems has gained momentum in recent years. For example, the Federal Statistical Office (StBA) has been developing ecosystem accounts since 2020. These are based on the "SEEA Ecosystem Accounting" framework of the United Nations, in the creation of which the environmental economic accounts of the StBA were involved. The StBA is working - with the support of the BfN and research institutions - to compile and publish the accounts on the extent and state of ecosystems and the services (in both physical and monetary units) nationwide.
The conference serves to network actors from science and practice who are involved in the development and institutionalisation of ecosystem accounts or who provide ecosystem-related information nationally. At the same time, the conference aims to address potential users from politics and society and open a dialogue with them on the areas in which ecosystem accounts and ecosystem service indicators can be used and included in decision-making processes
