Citizens' dialogue on nuclear energy
We cordially invite you to the final event of the research project "Citizens' dialogue on nuclear energy" in the Wegelystr. 8, 10623 Berlin (BASE) in. Digital participation via Zoom is also possible.
15.10.2024 | 15:00 to 18:00
Tens of thousands of information brochures, argumentation training for teachers and financial support for civil society: this is how the German government attempted to respond to the sometimes violent disputes surrounding nuclear energy from 1974 onwards with the "Citizens' Dialogue on Nuclear Energy".
Today, the "Citizens' Dialogue on Nuclear Energy" has almost been forgotten by the public and scientists. In order to draw conclusions from the experiences of these years for the ongoing search for a nuclear waste repository, BASE is closing this research gap with the research project "Citizens' dialogue on nuclear energy (1974-1983) - state action in the debate on nuclear waste disposal and its significance for today's site selection process".
The results of the research project on "Citizens' dialogue on nuclear energy" will be presented and discussed at the closing event.
Authors of the research project answer exciting questions:
- for example to the motives pursued by the government at the time.
- What measures did it implement and how did they resonate with civil society?
Afterwards, representatives of BASE, science and civil society will discuss the significance of the results for today's search for a repository.
BASE is now presenting its findings on the "first active reaction of the Federal Government" (Final Report of the Commission on the Final Repository, p. 85) to increasing protest from civil society at a public specialist event:
We look forward to your participation!
The research project was carried out by IZT - Institut für Zukunftsstudien und Technologiebewertung gemeinnützige GmbH with the subcontractors non-profit DIALOGIK GmbH and Gorleben Archive e.V.
