Energy Communities: Accelerators of the decentralised energy transition
Digitalisation, decentralisation and aspects of participation are central to the transformation of our energy system towards more sustainability. These factors are particularly effective in energy communities. In an analysis of the German Energy Agency (dena) research is being conducted into how these can strengthen the decentralised energy transition in the future.
Innovative digital technologies can make peer-to-peer energy trading, collective self-consumption and other decentralised business models economically feasible. The newly published study of the Future Energy Lab examples from the Netherlands, Denmark and Spain on how this can be done efficiently. Part of the team of authors are the IZT researchers Melanie Degel and Katrin Ludwig.
