Digital technologies play a key role on the path to a sustainable circular economy. They have the potential to close loops, reduce CO2 emissions and increase resource efficiency, and can significantly influence our consumer behaviour. The potential of digitalisation to shape a comprehensive circular economy is far from exhausted. In fact, the opportunities offered by digitalisation are of crucial importance given the continuous increase in the use of natural resources and the associated environmental impact in recent decades.

On the one hand, consumers can be supported in finding and selecting sustainable, circular, durable and used or recycled products. This can increase demand for these products. On the other hand, digitalisation offers consumers various opportunities to extend the lifespan of products through maintenance and repairs and to avoid unnecessary waste. In order to strengthen these two aspects, the transparency of (environmental) product information and the extension of product lifespans are key.

The main aim of the project is to develop a target image and, building on this, an implementation plan for the question "Which digital solutions support and promote sustainable circular consumption?". The focus is on the consumer perspective. At the same time, the perspective of the providers of digital solutions will also be included in the work. The project is supported by a continuous stakeholder process. The results will be prepared for effective public communication.
