Environmentally friendly innovation processes in the display industry
Display technologies were subject to rapid change. While classic CRT screens were currently being replaced by LCD flat screens, mainly produced in Asia, the successor technology was already in sight: self-luminous OLED displays as well as paper-like foil displays (intended for electronic newspapers, among other things).
This project investigated the role of stakeholder cooperation in the activation of environmental relief potentials and how these could be successfully organised. Specifically, the project focussed on four fields of innovation in global display production: the development of global networks for the recycling of conventional displays with lead-containing cathode ray tubes, the development of recycling technologies and infrastructures for flat screens, the establishment of an industrial production base for new environmentally friendly flat displays in Germany and Europe and the development of sustainable usage systems for electronic paper.
The scientists involved worked together with the German Flat Panel Display Forum and other key players from the industry, particularly in Germany and Europe as well as the USA and Japan.
