EurEnDel - Technology and Social Visions for Europe's Energy Future
Over 670 international energy experts took part in the Delphi survey on the future of the European energy supply.
The aim of EurEnDel was to analyse long-term developments in the energy sector across Europe. The centrepiece of the research project was a Delphi study in all EU member states and the Eastern European accession countries. In order to be able to utilise the rapidly advancing technological development in a targeted manner for a transformation of the energy industry towards sustainability, it was necessary both to know the expected technological developments and to formulate the needs arising from a social perspective.
EurEnDel therefore combined a "technology-push" approach, in which the potential of existing and future energy technologies was analysed, with a "social-pull" approach, in which concrete requirements for the European energy system were developed on the basis of social needs.
To this end, the social requirements were analysed in the form of future scenarios. Together with statements on technological development, these were presented to 3000 European energy experts for evaluation in a Delphi process. Based on these surveys, EurEnDel developed recommendations for decision-makers from politics and industry.
EurEnDel was the first Europe-wide Delphi study on the topic of energy. The project was coordinated by the IZT and carried out together with an international research consortium.
