Evaluation of energy research funding in industry
For the first time, the IZT analysed part of the German government's energy research funding in the dimensions of "economic efficiency", "impact" and "target achievement".
The IZT evaluated selected research funding projects from the German government's 4th and 5th energy research programmes. Specifically, the IZT scrutinised the "Energy efficiency in industry, commerce, trade and services" department of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. The study portfolio included just over 120 projects with a total cost of over 200 million euros. The evaluation was carried out using a mix of methods, including on-site interviews with project managers and an online survey. The key questions were: Did the subsidised projects achieve their objectives? What innovations and energy-saving effects did they trigger? The Ministry published the results of the evaluation in spring 2014.
