The aims of the project for the state of Brandenburg were to

  • to specify challenges and work-related requirements for managers,
  • to develop and test a practical set of instruments that enables the valid and reliable measurement of aspects of professional competence and
  • to demonstrate the increased competence of managers involved in qualification, coaching and counselling programmes.

In line with previous scientific findings on skills development, the selection of topics focussed on professional skills, personal skills, methodological skills and social skills. In particular, the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises were specifically taken into account.

The research project focussed on the development and practical testing of a measurement methodology for the individual professional competence of managers in the tourism industry. The project was closely related to the "Qualification offensive in tourism in the state of Brandenburg - promoting further training in tourism through counselling and qualification of companies and their managers and employees in the tourism industry".
