This international project shed light on historical, political, economic and social dynamics. It also analysed continuities and ruptures in the Middle East and North Africa since 2010. On this basis, scenarios for the time horizons 2025 and 2050 were developed with the aim of identifying future developments in this region for EU foreign policy in as sound a manner as possible and presenting appropriate political strategies on this basis. The project abbreviation "MENARA" stands for "Middle East and North Africa Regional Architecture" and means "lighthouse" in Arabic. The research consortium worked with quantitative and qualitative methods. These included interviews, focus groups and Delphi studies as well as innovative foresight techniques. The IZT team was responsible for the future-related work. The first project publication appeared in autumn 2016.
