The aim of the Railenergy project was to use an integrated, system-oriented approach to increase the energy efficiency of railway systems and thus reduce the energy costs and life cycle costs of railway operations. At the same time, the railways' contribution to reducing CO2 emissions was improved. By implementing the energy efficiency measures developed in Railenergy and by introducing the innovative technologies developed in the course of the project, a 61TP3 reduction in total energy consumption should be achieved by 2020.
