Together with four European partners, the IZT concluded a framework agreement with the European Parliament (EP) for scientific advice on energy issues. As part of the work of the EP's Committee for Technology Assessment (STOA - Scientific Technology Options Assessment), the consortium prepared energy-related reports and studies on:
- Technology assessment,
- Approaches to solving technology-related problems
- Policy options and
- contributions to the dialogue between political and scientific circles and society at large. In the years 2010-2012, the IZT developed a future study on intelligent networks - smart grids.
Technology assessment studies for the European Parliament's Committee on Technology Assessment (STOA - Scientific Technology Options Assessment) are designed to deal with long-term, complex and interdisciplinary topics. Specific questions were defined by STOA during the term of the framework agreement, in each case based on requests from Members of the European Parliament.
Smart Grids Study (2010 – 2012)
As part of this contract to advise the European Parliament (STOA Committee), the IZT and its international partners were commissioned to prepare a study on smart grids in autumn 2010. The aim of the project was to evaluate the technical and scientific developments in the field of smart grids and to analyse the political, social and economic implications of the use of smart grids in the EU's electricity sector.
