Sustainable cities through Local Agenda 21
The centrepiece was a conference with an "impulse character". This conference promoted the formation of a network of LA21 stakeholders in major German cities.
The aim of this project was to combine practical experience, scientific findings and public awareness at a conference and to initiate an improved and more intensive exchange between stakeholders from the major cities involved.
At the centre of the project was a one-and-a-half-day event held in Berlin in April 2002 under the auspices of GRÜNE LIGA Berlin e.V. and L.A.N.D. (Local Agenda 21 Networks Germany). The aim was to combine practical experience, scientific findings and public awareness and to support an improved, intensive exchange between actors in the participating cities.
This conference had an "impulse character" in that it was intended to drive forward the formation of a network of LA21 stakeholders in major German cities. In addition to a prepared exchange of experiences, the event centred on the discussion and adoption of a "Berlin Declaration". This was intended as the substantive foundation for further networking between the major cities.
