Technical evaluation and monitoring of the Land.Funk model and demonstration projects
The BMEL funding programme "Land.Funk" supports projects that develop and test digital solutions for the use of gigabit-capable mobile networks (5G). The IZT accompanies and researches the projects in order to gain insights for future policy design.
With the funding measure "Land.Funk - Applications of Gigabit Networks for Rural Areas", the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) is funding the development and testing of digital solutions for the use of gigabit-capable mobile networks (5G) as part of the federal programme "Rural Development and Regional Value Creation (BULEplus)". The aim of five Land.Funk funding projects is to improve services of general interest in rural areas and thus contribute to the creation of equal living conditions.
Funding will be provided for 5G experimental fields in rural areas that visualise the new possibilities of this mobile communications technology for various areas such as health, work, mobility, municipal tasks, emergency services, data platforms and digital twins in a clear and exemplary manner, thus demonstrating the benefits of the nationwide expansion of 5G mobile networks in rural areas.
The IZT - in cooperation with the think tank "neuland21" - accompanies and researches the funded projects in order to gain insights for future policy-making at the federal level as well as for the design of political and administrative framework conditions at all relevant political levels. The task of the expert evaluation and monitoring of the projects is also to develop practical recommendations for transferring the project approaches to other regions.
