In a three-year joint project, seven project partners have been investigating individual motives, youth-specific mobility styles and mobility-related lifestyle dimensions of young people and young adults since 8/1998. In particular, cross-modal offers should be tested in pilot projects.

The IZT sub-project focussed on the Potsdam region and was carried out in close cooperation with the SFZ and the ViP public transport company in Potsdam. The most important methodological approach was based on in-depth interviews with young people from the region. A qualitative guideline developed jointly by the IZT, SFZ, DJI and ILS and coordinated with the survey regions (Dortmund, Greifswald, Passau) had to fulfil two objectives: 1. to examine "mobility demand types" from the written representative survey of the first project phase and 2. to test the level of interest and survey the horizon of ideas for two specific regional product development projects of the ViP (disco night shuttle "Nightrider" and DAB info screens). The interviews were documented in a structured form, with paraphrasing in the first person being used in order to preserve the individual linguistic expression of the respective young people as faithfully as possible.
The overall analyses of the project were completed at the end of 2001. With the help of the interview results, the Potsdam transport companies have already designed specific transport services for young people. The overall project was scheduled for completion in March 2002.
