Abstract

The project investigated the potential of ICT-based services of general interest in suburban and rural regions for environmental protection. The project, which was carried out as a pilot project in the district of Wolfenbüttel, provides exemplary experience and suggestions for other rural regions. The analysis shows a broad spectrum of approaches, from local supply and re-use of used products to co-working and mobility to health and open government. It became clear that digitalisation can offer considerable potential for environmental relief, but that the implementation as well as the stabilisation of many approaches also encounters a variety of challenges.
