Save money and protect the climate
Abstract
Information and communication technology, i.e. the use of computers and the Internet, causes around 33 million tonnes of the greenhouse gas CO2 per year (figures for 2007). We are all using the Internet more and more often, more and more intensively. The expansion of networks and the trend towards being constantly online - "always, anywhere & anytime" - will continue to increase electricity consumption. Information and communication technology is a growth market, also in terms of greenhouse gas emissions - and this trend is very relevant for climate protection.
