Development and testing of a method for estimating the contributions of a sector to sustainable development with a system of indicators - using the example of the organic agriculture and food industry in Berlin-Brandenburg
Abstract
The dissertation develops and applies a method for estimating the contributions of an industry to sustainable development by means of an indicator system. The method is tested and demonstrated in its application by reflecting on and further developing an indicator system and the procedure for investigating the contributions of the organic agriculture and food industry in Berlin-Brandenburg to sustainable regional development. One result of the application of methods are proposals for modifying the indicator system by means of indicator aggregation, selection of key indicators and inclusion of additional indicators. With the help of the further developed indicator system and empirical results from the research project, the focal points of action and impact of the sector in the region are also worked out. Finally, proposals for (sector and policy) strategies to expand positive sustainability contributions of the sector with the method are derived on this basis.
