Abstract

In a long-term environmentally sustainable economy, ecological product design plays a central role. It forms the core of a sustainable circular economy. The basics of environmentally friendly design of industrial products are taught here. Using a practical example, the development of the first disposal-friendly colour television set, it is demonstrated that extensive resource protection, conservation of valuable materials and recycling management are possible through the ecological design of complex mass-produced products. Within this framework, a concept for low-pollutant electronics is presented for the first time, which could significantly influence the further development of the entire electronics industry.
