Abstract

Energy generation is one of the key issues for the future, with renewable energies becoming increasingly important. By 2050, 60% of total energy requirements and 80% of electricity requirements are to be covered by renewable energies in Germany. This target can only be achieved with a massive expansion of alternative energy systems. The discussion about the potential environmental impact is therefore coming to the fore.
This online course is based on a student research project and provides an overview of the most important impacts of renewable energy systems in the environmental and social dimension. For the sake of completeness, the technologies analysed are also presented.

The course is aimed at anyone interested in acquiring basic knowledge on this topic. To planners and engineers who write expert reports for e.g. development plans as well as experts who want to assess the utilisation possibilities of plants. The materials compare the pros and cons of the environmental impact of renewable energy plants and provide an opportunity for discussion and opinion-forming.
