Abstract

Digitalisation, decentralisation and participation are key building blocks for the sustainable transformation of our energy system. These aspects are particularly important in energy communities.
The analysis shows how such communities in their diverse constellations will advance the decentralised energy transition in the future. Digital technologies can help to make peer-to-peer energy trading, collective self-consumption and other decentralised business models economically viable. The analysis also uses examples from the Netherlands, Denmark and Spain to show how this can be achieved.
