Abstract

What does the future of building and housing look like? This report attempts to provide some answers to this question, although it is certainly not possible to answer it comprehensively. In the course of this study, general trends that may have an impact on the future of building and housing were identified through an internet and literature search as well as through the evaluation of research projects conducted by the IZT. In doing so, the following focal points were set: Building and housing for the residential sector, socio-demographic developments, smart living, technology attitudes and building energy technology. Subsequently, the identified trends were evaluated in interviews and discussed at a workshop. A total of 32 trends were identified, ranging from the development of new housing construction, the needs of the ageing generations and the use of smart housing technology to the use of efficient heating systems. This report was made possible by Research Premium 2 from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
