Abstract

How will the sharing economy develop in the future? Since peer-to-peer sharing is about new usage concepts and business models, trend extrapolations are only possible to a limited extent. The market dynamics of the last few years cannot simply be continued. After the wave of start-ups, a growth phase and a consolidation of the peer-to-peer sharing market can be observed, which manifests itself in organisational adjustments and restructuring of the business models; in some cases, mergers of several platforms take place. The young and emerging markets of peer-to-peer sharing are characterised by high uncertainties and rapid changes. Various key factors, their characteristics and interactions play a central role in the future development of peer-to-peer sharing.
