Abstract

The LabEx Writing a New History of Europe aims to write an online encyclopaedia for a new history of Europe. Thematic, bilingual, with transversal and global approaches to European history, it is aimed at a wide audience: secondary and higher education teachers, the university scientific community, students, political circles and decision-makers, journalists ... and anyone who wishes to consult it. Without neglecting any period of history and in the perspective that the LabEx has adopted to explain today's European crisis, it will provide its readers with historical keys to understanding the present.

The encyclopaedia is structured by large notes defining key issues and contains shorter factual notes on more specific topics. All entries contain brief bibliographical references so that readers can go further if they wish.

The uniformity of the encyclopaedia will be ensured by a general editorial committee made up of members of the seven thematic axes of the LabEx, its Secretary General and its Communications Officer. Each axis will have a reading committee to scientifically analyse and validate the entries.

The encyclopaedia was launched in January 2016 with around one hundred entries. All of them will be available in 2019.
