Abstract

Questions about the future and the desire to identify and shape future events and developments are at the centre of many research and development projects. For 30 years, the term "megatrends" has been synonymous with the analysis and discussion of which fundamental developments will significantly influence the respective object of study in the future. This is intended to provide orientation knowledge for solving current and future challenges. This article presents selected megatrends with relevance for the energy-efficient city and explains the current state of knowledge against this background.
