Abstract

The IZT - Institute for Futures Studies and Technology Assessment was commissioned by the Federal Office for Radiation Protection to work on the research project "Investigation into the Usability of Citizen Science for Obtaining Data on Radon Indoor Concentration". The task of the research project was to work out the benefits and, if necessary, concrete proposals for the implementation of a citizen science project on radon in Germany. The central tasks of a possible citizen science project should be the collection of data on indoor radon concentrations, preferably with electronic measuring devices, as well as the improvement of radon knowledge among the general population. In the conception of a citizen science project, metrological, social, societal and legal aspects were to be included.
