Abstract

The topic of "new electronic media and addictive behaviour" is the subject of socio-political debate against the backdrop of the increasing mediatisation of society and ever younger users. The understanding of what constitutes "normal" media usage behaviour differs significantly between generations and leads to intense disputes and conflicts within families, but also in educational institutions.
The study focuses on the scientific findings on the extent and consequences of addictive media use, differentiated according to the various forms of online (gambling) addiction, shopping addiction, sex addiction and social network addiction. Against the backdrop of today's changing norms and values, the concerns and interests of the stakeholders involved as well as political options for action are presented.
