Abstract

Ossip K. Flechtheim (1909-1998) would have been 100 years old on 5 March 2009. The political scientist and founder of futurology had been a professor at the Otto Suhr Institute at the Free University of Berlin since the 1950s. Flechtheim studied law in Freiburg, Heidelberg and Cologne and was forced to emigrate in 1935 as a member of a resistance group. He returned to Germany from the USA at the beginning of the 1950s. He wrote numerous books on the history of the Communist Party, the party system in the Federal Republic of Germany, war and peace and the future.
To mark his 100th birthday, many of his former students, colleagues and companions have come together to honour him with this publication.
