Abstract

This anthology discusses the opportunities and obstacles of an energy transition in East Germany. The starting point is the thesis put forward by representatives of East German research that an energy turnaround and the expansion of renewable energies in East Germany open up the opportunity to break away from the model of catch-up industrialisation along the lines of "Nachbau West" and to overcome the associated development blockades. The contributions to the book examine from the perspective of various scientific disciplines as well as practice whether and how a socio-ecological change of path can be initiated through an energy turnaround, the population can be involved and sustainable, resource-conserving forms of economy can be established. The book is aimed at readers in the field of energy supply at the interface between science and practice.
