Abstract

Five cities have emerged victorious from the BMBF's "Energy-efficient city" competition: Delitzsch, Essen, Magdeburg, Stuttgart and Wolfhagen. Between 2011 and 2017, they were allowed to put the innovative concepts they developed as part of the competition into practice in order to increase energy efficiency at a local level. The IZT's research project accompanied the implementation of the concepts in the five cities, focussing on "Innovations with services". The IZT's own research contribution examines current topics in greater depth, which are analysed using the examples and in cooperation with the competing municipalities. These include the acceptance of new technologies such as smart meters and electromobility, services for financing energy-saving measures and new value creation processes and business models. In this way, knowledge was developed during the project that other municipalities can also apply.
