Abstract

This WerkstattBericht "Nachhaltige Wohnungswirtschaft" (Workshop Report on Sustainable Housing) is based on the results of several years of research by the IZT in the fields of construction, housing, the housing industry and sustainable development, as well as on Anke Bergner's diploma thesis with an empirical survey of housing companies in the new federal states. The workshop report examines the genesis of the concept of sustainable development with a focus on the housing industry. Based on the discussion of sustainable development, fields of action for the housing industry that are particularly relevant for sustainable development are proposed. For each field of action, an example from the housing industry is given. Of particular interest for this research was the housing industry's perspective on sustainability. In order to find this out, an empirical survey was conducted among housing companies organised in associations of the GdW and its regional associations in the new federal states. An interesting result of this survey is that the housing companies attach great importance to sustainable development and expect advantages from making their corporate policy more sustainable.
