Abstract

Local economic policy has the task of creating framework conditions under which the competitiveness of the local and regional economy can be increased. The transfer of expertise and application of new technologies plays an important role in this context. As part of the German Research Foundation's priority programme "Technological Change and Regional Development in Europe", the German Institute of Urban Affairs and the Institute for Futures Studies and Technology Assessment have investigated current developments in institutionalised technology transfer using the two example regions of Berlin and London. The project focussed on fields of technology transfer that have received little attention to date: the transfer topic of "telematics", the target group of "small and medium-sized information-oriented service providers" and the question of the region-specific effects of telematics transfer.
