The blind spot of digitalisation
How sustainability and digital transformation can be reconciled
Abstract
Digitalisation is the greatest society-wide transformation of our time. Its technological development is exponential, making innovation leaps and their side effects increasingly unpredictable. Nevertheless, politics and business emphasise the need not to limit digitalisation and to follow the path of technological development. However, the devastating consequences for sustainability are concealed. The enormous increase in the demand for energy, raw materials, logistics and transport, production and disposal is creating huge problems.
