The social living environment
In: Housing Estates in Transition. Impulses of inter- and transdisciplinary research on the design of post-war housing estates
Abstract
How will we live and live in the future? A question that requires visionary thinking and creativity to answer against the backdrop of the enormous social challenges posed by climate change and other current developments.
This study focuses on the refurbishment of housing estates from the immediate post-war period. The book contributes to the question of how social transformation processes in the areas of "building and housing" can be channelled into sustainable paths through scientific support.
Research that concentrates on specialised areas all too often loses sight of the big picture and vision and creativity fall by the wayside. Sustainable development, on the other hand, requires a transdisciplinary search for structures and solutions. The experiences of individual disciplines in areas such as the reduction of heating energy requirements, the design of neighbourhood coexistence or the participation of residents must be brought together to form an overall concept of sustainable conversion. To this end, the book provides research findings and practical recommendations for action.
