Tourism and technology
Abstract
As an outstanding service industry of the future, tourism is associated with an increasing and sometimes enormous use of technology. From information, office and organisational technology to transport, energy, construction and building technology to sports, leisure and event technology, there is a wide range of technological applications and innovative developments that is unparalleled in any other economic sector.
On behalf of the Office of Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag (TAB), the IZT - Institute for Futures Studies and Technology Assessment analysed the current and future use of technologies in tourism. The inventory "Tourism and Technology" systematically presents the use and potential of technical solutions in tourism based on the areas of travel, leisure and organisation and administration and is therefore the first comprehensive overview in this field. It highlights the opportunities and risks for tourism stakeholders as well as political decision-makers and the public and opens up future-oriented perspectives.
