Abstract

In recent years, normative narrative scenarios have increasingly been used to support discourses in innovation processes. The twelve scenarios presented here were developed in connection with the Federal Government's High-Tech Strategy or with strategy programmes of the BMBF in the years 2002 to 2008. They cover a broad spectrum of application fields ranging from bionics and biological engineering to learning worlds and knowledge processes to prevention, safety and product design with customer integration. The scenarios presented are meticulously constructed yet very vividly narrated images of everyday life in possible futures. Primarily, they are geared towards participatory goal formation: "What future do we want?" In their respective fields of application, they therefore combine what is technically possible in principle with aspects of what is socially desirable. In doing so, they do not claim normative general validity, but are intended to provoke thought and discussion about design alternatives. In addition to the scenarios, the volume contains a methodological appendix. This explains how normative narrative scenarios are generated in a group process using quasi-literary methods and how they can be "evaluated" - also in a group setting.
