Mobility and urbanity

We are experiencing a fundamental change in our mobility behaviour and our transport system. This results not only in conflicting goals, but also in opportunities for a successful transformation.

New technologies in the course of the digitalisation of large parts of our social life as well as trends towards individualisation and advancing urbanisation are some of the main drivers of the transformation. These must be reconciled with achieving climate neutrality without restricting people's mobility needs.

The transformation processes of our mobility and transport system are multi-layered. Based on the question of how mobility can be made more resilient and sustainable, we deal with the systemic risks, their causes and effects on mobility and transport and develop options for solutions and action.

The interdisciplinary team focuses on the topics of mobility justice, digital transformation and sustainable mobility and vehicle concepts in urban and rural areas. The spectrum of methods ranges from empirical social research to the central methods of futurology.

Team

The Mobility and Urbanity research team works closely with the Future Research & Transformation team. Especially with the interface to the Energy, Climate & Infrastructure team, a large number of research projects have already been successfully carried out and publications published.
