Roadmap 2030

In view of social, political and technological changes, the German water industry is facing new challenges in shaping change and securing its long-term future. With the Roadmap 2030, the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW) and the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) have published an action agenda for sustainable water management. The Roadmap 2030 with its six fields of action (Sustainable use of natural water resources, Near-natural water quality, Water-conscious urban development, Resilient supply and disposal infrastructures, Resource-efficient and climate-neutral water management, Water-conscious society) defines key measures to meet the diverse challenges of the 21st century, from climate change to demographic change, and to set the course early on to achieve the vision of a water-conscious society for the year 2100. This long-term orientation of the strategy is a special feature. By implementing the prioritised measures, visible breakthroughs are to be achieved by 2030 - in close alignment with the German government's National Water Strategy (NWS) - and a water transition initiated.

The Roadmap 2030 is the result of an intensive dialogue process with representatives of DVGW, DWA and companies in the water industry. Under the coordination of the IZT, the project partners IKU_DIE DIALOGGESTALTER, TZW: DVGW-Technologiezentrum Wasser and IWW Rheinisch-Westfälisches Institut für Wasserforschung designed the roadmap process and provided scientific support.
