Results from the focus group

The reorganisation of economic reporting sees the Bio-Mo-D project an important building block for the inclusion of natural assets in political and business decisions. At the same time, it creates a new basis for the appreciation of biodiversity - also as part of an expanded prosperity reporting in Germany.
Against this backdrop, the Bio-Mo-D research team from the Institute for Future Technologies and Technology Assessment (IZT) invited stakeholders from politics, associations, business and the media to a (virtual) focus group in June 2024 entitled "Unexpected alliances - How can new information about ecosystems and their services become relevant for social action?".
As part of the IZT's working focus "Science Policy Interface - Resonance on the integration of ecosystem services in national and corporate economic reporting", the focus group aimed to enter into dialogue with representatives from various sectors and to gain valuable impulses and information.
In particular, current political and legal developments regarding reporting systems on ecosystem services in Germany and the associated opportunities and potential were discussed. Another key topic was the importance of strategic alliances between different stakeholders and their possible future organisation.
This focus group was an important step towards putting the topic of biodiversity and ecosystem services on the social agenda on the one hand and, on the other, integrating the concerns and perspectives of relevant stakeholders even more closely into the research work.
