Natural capital as an economic factor

Roland Zieschank (Bio-Mo-D project) took part in an expert panel on 30 October 2024 on the topic of "Natural capital as an economic factor", organised by the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the German Sustainable Economy Association (Bundesverband Nachhaltige Wirtschaft e.V.).

Even before the EU's legal regulations on the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), some companies were already addressing biodiversity voluntarily and as pioneers. In the future, however, the focus will be on what influence the CSRD can have on the appropriate inclusion of biodiversity and natural capital in corporate activities. In the discussions, the IZT referred to helpful sources of information such as the Federal Statistical Office's ecosystem atlas and the long-term benefits of ecosystem-based reporting.
